Ultra-high energy absorption high-entropy alloy syntactic foam

Metal matrix syntactic foams (MMSFs) are a class of fascinating particulate composites consisting metal and hollow spheres, which promising in the light-weight structural energy absorbing applications. However, absorption capacity most MMSFs is suffocated inevitably by relatively low strength traditional alloys, such as widely used aluminum magnesium alloys. Here, we developed novel MMSF with CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloy alumina cenosphere fillers pressure infiltration, exhibits an ultra-high 242.8 ± 20.6 MJ m?3, among highest reported values MMSFs. We show that this exceptional stems from excellent combination cenospheres super-large ductility fracture toughness alloy. These results shed new light into design advanced materials.
